Story sacks and share bags
A story sack is a large cotton bag containing a book and props to support the story. They can be borrowed from any library and cost £1 to hire for 1 week.
Sharing story sacks with children offers a multi-sensory approach to the reading process and will help develop early literacy skills.
Benefits of story sacks
Using story sacks is an excellent way to create and sustain an interest in books.
Children enjoy fun and interactive activities and this is a perfect way to allow children to be more hands-on during story time, stimulating their minds and imagination by bringing stories to life.
It creates another dimension to the book and allows children to make sense of what is going on in the story. A story sack encourages children to play and explore, allows them to think creatively and provides opportunities to create and think critically.
Share bags
Share bags contain 6 books and appropriate resources to support children's learning and development. They help you to share with children the importance and enjoyment of listening, talking and sharing books and stories. They can be borrowed from any library and cost £1 to hire for 1 week.
Benefits of share bags
These materials will encourage children to develop and learn in different ways and at different stages. Books have been specially selected by the Library Service to encourage very young children to develop their communication skills.
They are particularly suitable for two-year-olds. There are resources that you can use with the books to extend the reading and communication experience for your children.
