Who we are and how we work

Our mission, our vision

At West Northants Council, it’s all about our people.

We pride ourselves on our ambition, our drive to demand better ways of working, and our ability to face challenges head-on.

This is a place to forge new opportunities. Where potential is unlocked, talent thrives.

We have an incredible workforce who are committed to the delivery of our ambitions.

There are very few industries that offer the breadth and depth or services that Councils provide. While we will always be judged on the basis of public facing services, we recognise that the backbone of our success is in the corporate services that enable change and keep us safe.

The skilled staff we recruit and retain are vital to ongoing success and we provide a welcoming, professional and collaborative environment in which to THRIVE.

Agile, hybrid and flexible working

We're committed to fostering a flexible work environment that enhances productivity, service quality, customer experience, and overall wellbeing. We believe in the power of agile and flexible work options to boost workforce diversity and enhance work-life balance, while meeting our corporate goals.

We support a variety of work styles and locations, helping employees tailor their schedules to fit their roles. We offer part-time, job share, term-time only, and annualised hours as options.

Our workforce includes Fixed Workers, Part-Flexible Workers, Flexible Workers, and Operational Field-Based Workers. Your worker type will be based on the function of your job role. For example, if you need to work with the public from a fixed location, you will be a Fixed Worker.

We conduct employee surveys, which are anonymous, to enable us to really understand how employees feel about working at West Northants Council.

This enables us to identify what we’re doing well and how we can improve. We can then put plans in place to action what you believe can make us a better workplace.
