Housing land supply
We produce a Housing Land Supply Assessment each year as required by the National Planning Policy Framework (December 2023). They include reports for the Daventry and South Northamptonshire areas as well as the Northampton Related Development area.
We also undertake quarterly monitoring of certain sites and produce reports setting out progress on these sites compared to what is expected in the Housing Land Availability Reports. These have been undertaken since 2016 for the Daventry area and from 2022 for the whole of west Northamptonshire.
The monitoring for the Daventry area followed the adoption of a Housing Implementation Strategy by the former Daventry District Council in 2016.
From 2018 to 2021, Northampton delivered 90% of its housing requirement for the period ending April 2021, which meant that it failed the test. As a consequence, the Council has produced a Housing Action Plan for Northampton to identify the main issues associated with housing delivery and the main actions that can be taken by the Council to speed up delivery. The Daventry and South Northamptonshire areas both passed the Housing Delivery Test for 2019-2022.
