Local heritage asset list
Non-designated heritage assets are buildings, sites, landscapes, monuments or areas of archaeological interest which:
- have a degree of heritage significance meriting further consideration under policy
- are unlikely to be statutorily designated
They play an important role in the recognition and celebration of local heritage.
Local heritage lists are a way of recording and providing clear information regarding non-designated heritage assets for stakeholders and decision makers.

Criteria
In order to be added to the local list, assets must first meet the criteria adopted by West Northamptonshire Council. Criteria are used to ensure that any non-designated heritage assets which are added to the list have been assessed in a consistent and transparent manner.
Not all heritage assets will meet the criteria, but they can still be considered non-designated heritage assets if they have a degree of heritage significance. As such, the local list for West Northamptonshire identifies some of the most significant non-designated heritages assets in the area.
The three legacy authorities of South Northamptonshire, Daventry District and Northampton Borough each formulated their own criteria and methodology using best practice. A new set of criteria and process has been established for West Northamptonshire Council, and the sites identified in the legacy areas have been incorporated as the foundation of the new local list.
You can view the criteria in the below document.
