The SEND Support Service are currently suspending all workshops that were due to start after 29 April 2025.

Courses and workshops

Understanding ADHD or ADHD-related behaviours

Type of course

Virtual or face-to-face workshop.

Length of course

2 sessions over 2 weeks

What the course will include

This workshop for parents and carers provides practical tools and strategies to support children with ADHD or ADHD-related behaviours. We will focus on:

  • understanding ADHD and its co-occurring challenges
  • exploring effective strategies and techniques to support your child

Understand how social communication difficulties affect anger

Type of course

Virtual or face-to-face workshop.

Length of course

2 sessions over 2 weeks.

What the course will include

You will be informed of:

  • anger and emotions in children and young people with a Special Educational Need and Disability (SEND) 
  • strategies to aid regulation 
  • how to improve your confidence in recognising and managing your child’s emotions​
  • practical skills used to track behaviour

Support with anxiety in children with a Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND)

Type of course

Virtual or face-to-face workshop.

Length of course

2 sessions over 2 weeks.

What the course will include

The workshop is intended to aid you on:

  • anxiety in children and young people with SEND​
  • the methods for helping to manage their anxiety
  • improving your confidence in recognising and managing your child’s anxiety

Understand the difficulties surrounding food and SEND

We have decided to suspend this workshop due to low interest.

If you need advice about food and SEND difficulties, please request a telephone consultation by completing our online form. Make sure to specify the area you need support with so we can assign the right practitioner.

A practitioner can help you:

  • understand more about food and SEND difficulties
  • explore strategies and visual resources to overcome food and eating challenges
  • create bespoke resources to support positive change

Support with matters relating to puberty

Due to a lack of uptake we have made the decision to suspend this workshop for the foreseeable future. 

If you need support, advice or signposting relating to puberty, please request a telephone consultation by completing our online consultation form. Please make sure you highlight which area you need support with so we can allocate a practitioner accordingly.

Areas a practitioner could support with:

  • physical changes
  • personal care
  • examples of visual supports to aid understanding

Gain a basic understanding of sensory differences in children and young people

Type of course

Virtual or face-to-face workshop​.

Length of course

90 minutes if virtual, 120 minutes if face to face.

What the course will include

The workshop is designed to help you:

  • gain a basic understanding of sensory 
  • consider how sensory differences and their challenges relates to you and your child
  • understand the formula of sensory circuits and how to set one up

Understanding social communication difficulties and / or autism

Spectrum course

Spectrum is a 4-week course for parents and carers of children aged 8 to 19 with neurodiversity, such as ASD or ADHD, whether formally diagnosed or not. Each session is 2 hours long and held once a week over 4 weeks.

The sessions will help you develop a range of support strategies for your child.

Reflections course

For parents and carers of children with social and communication difficulties and / or autism aged 7 years and under

Supporting children with toileting issues

We have decided to suspend this workshop due to low interest.

If you need advice about toileting and SEND difficulties, please request a telephone consultation by completing our online form. Make sure to specify the area you need support with so we can assign the right practitioner.

A practitioner can help you with:

  • sequencing of toileting
  • strategies to bridge your child's gaps or sticking points (including sensory)
  • ways to move the sequence on from your child's starting point
  • covering the sequence from start to finish, breaking it down into each step, discussing potential barriers, and ways to overcome them

Early years workshop to support parents and carers understanding of children’s interests, to help them support development through play.

Type of course

Virtual or face to face workshop. This workshop is suitable for parents and carers of children aged 0 to 5 years.

Length of course

90 minutes if virtual, 120 minutes if face to face.

What the course will include

The workshop aims to tutor you on:

  • developmental age verses chronological age in play
  • understanding communication in play
  • explore how to support children’s interests in play
