Private hire vehicle licence

A private hire vehicle licence is required for a vehicle that wishes to be pre-booked. All private hire vehicles must be driven by a person who holds a HCV/PHV drivers licence. We can only issue a private hire vehicle licence for vehicles that operate within the district. All vehicles will be subject to inspections.

You will be required to make an account when applying online. This is to enable you to save your application and come back to it later.

The following documents must be submitted with your application:

completed application form
insurance certificate
V5C vehicle registration document (log book)
MOT certificate dated within 28 days of an inspection appointment
application fee

Apply for a private hire vehicle licence in Daventry and South Northamptonshire

You can apply online for all driver/vehicle licences in the Northampton licensing portal with your existing login credentials.

If you wish to apply as a new driver, or if this is your first time using the online portal you will need to register first.

You will be able to pay for your licence fee during the online application process.

Once you have applied online you will be required to submit the following documents to [email protected];

MOT certificate dated within 28 days of an inspection appointment
Councils inspection form

The Council approved testing station may submit these documents on your behalf.

Report a collision or damage

You will be required to have an account to report your collision to enable you to save your form and come back to it at a later time. If you have submitted a vehicle application since September 2021 you will already have an account.
