Food premises approval
If you are planning to make, prepare or handle food that comes from animals and then supply this to other businesses then we may need to approve your premises before you can start.
This applies to food including (but not limited to):
- meat
- dairy
- fish
- egg products
If your business is a slaughter house or processes raw meats solely for supply to other businesses, it will require approval by the Food Standards Agency.
Approved premises need to meet additional requirements above the general requirements for food premises as they usually involve more high risk operations. Further information is available on the Food Standards Agency website.
The law relating to approval is complicated and there are a number of exceptions so email [email protected] if something is unclear.
Once the application form has been received your business will be inspected to check it meets required hygiene standards. If they are acceptable, you will be granted conditional approval which will allow you to start trading.
