What is a Coroner?
Coroners are independent judicial office holders funded by us. They are either a doctor or lawyer and primarily investigate violent, sudden or suspicious deaths.
Some deaths have to be reported to a Coroner before:
- the death can be registered at the registration office
- the document allowing the funeral to go ahead can be issued
