Homes for Ukraine - health and wellbeing
GP and dental services
All visitors and guests are entitled to access NHS services free of charge. You are strongly encouraged to help them register with a GP and dental practice as soon as possible.
Health systems in Ukraine will differ from ours in the UK. The NHS website has a health guide for migrant patients and an animated video.
Please observe the guidance the NHS provides in relation to primary and secondary care services. Calling 111 for advice about medical symptoms and conditions is often preferable than just going to A&E. The 111 service has interpreters available too.
Safeguarding concerns
If you have any wellbeing or safeguarding concerns about your guests and their families you should contact us:
Report a concern about an adult
Report a concern about a child
Reporting war crimes
The Met Police website has information in English, Ukrainian and Russian about reporting war crimes.
NHS entitlements
There is a charging exemption for NHS treatment for anyone ordinarily resident in Ukraine, but lawfully in the UK.
Many migrants will come from countries with very different health care systems to the UK. The guide below can help to:
- explain to new patients how the NHS operates
- explore how this compares to the healthcare system that they’ve been used to
The guidance is about NHS entitlements in England.
