Looking to move
There is limited supply of specialist older persons housing or retirement housing, to be considered for this type of housing you need to qualify to join the housing register.
If you are interested in moving to older persons housing or retirement housing, there are various options available depending on your housing provider:
- flats and apartments in a block, known as sheltered or retirement schemes
- extra care flats and apartments where you have the freedom to live independently with on-site support if needed
- groups of bungalows in the wider community
To move to any of these options you will need to qualify to join our housing register.
If you are already a social housing tenant, you will need to contact your housing provider (housing association) directly.
If you are an existing social housing tenant but are considering moving to a different part of the country, another option is to register with Homeswapper.
Options to stay in your home
Adapting your home to include disabled facilities can make it easier for you to remain independent in your own home. See our Care and Repair services and our Disabled facilities grants page for more information.
Long term care and support in your home may also be an option to consider.
