Join the housing register
There is high demand for social rented housing in West Northants and a limited supply of available homes. People are encouraged to explore alternative housing options. You can find this information on our housing choices page.
If you are thinking of making a housing application to join the Housing Register, it is useful to check to see if you would qualify.
Some people may not be eligible or qualify to join the Housing Register, these may include:
- if you are under 18 years of age
- you do not have the capacity to hold a tenancy
- you not meet the local connection to the West Northants area
- people whose unacceptable or unreasonable behaviour would make them an un-suitable tenant
- you have outstanding housing related debt
- you are a homeowner in the UK or abroad
- people with a total household income over £60,000
- people with savings or assets over £16,000
- you have breached tenancy conditions
- if you do not have a recognised housing need
Certain conditions apply to tenancies allocated to applicants between the ages of 16 and 18.

You will need the following information to hand for all adults who are to be rehoused with you before you start the application process:
- Full names and dates of birth of everyone to be included in your registration for housing
- National insurance numbers
- 5 year address history
- Immigration status
- Details of any unspent criminal convictions

Please complete all questions in full where possible. If you don’t have the information available to complete your application in one go, you can log out and your answers for each section will be saved. However, you need to make sure you complete the questions for a section and save it before you log out.
Once you have completed your housing application form, you will be provided with a unique reference number. Please keep a record of this number, as you will need this to register for an online housing account. Once this has been completed you will then be able to send your supporting documents.
Once your application has been assessed and you have joined the housing register, you will then be able to login to your portal and bid for a potential property.
