Educational support for children and young people with SEND

Sensory Impairment Service

This service supports children and young people with a sensory impairment that affects their hearing or their vision or multi-sensory impairments. It is a countywide specialist team.

The SEND Support Service (SSS)

SSS offers advice and support to children, young people, families, carers and a range of educational establishments for children with a wide range of special educational needs and/or autism, aged 0 to 19 years.

Educational Psychologists

The Educational Psychology Service supports families through the application of psychological knowledge and skills. They aim to help children and young people (from birth to 25 years) overcome barriers to successful learning.

In the first instance, you should discuss concerns about your child’s learning and progress at school with your child’s teacher or the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo). The SENCo will contact the Educational Psychologists, if appropriate, to start a discussion about your child’s needs.

School Attendance Support Service

The School Attendance Support Service provide advice and information about school attendance, part-time attendance, managed moves and exclusions. If the child or young person has an EHC plan then it is expected that the EHC team will be informed.

SEND Information, Advice and Support Services (SEND IASS)

The SEND Information, Advice, and Support Service (IASS) is an impartial and confidential service that gives free information, advice, and support about special educational needs or disabilities (SEND). The service operates at arm's length from the local authority and Integrated Care Northamptonshire through independently trained staff.

The service is for parents or carers of children (aged 0-25) and young people up to 25 with SEND. Parents/carers can self-refer or grant permission for someone else to make a referral on their behalf. Young people (aged 16-25) can ask for support separately from their parents or carers if they wish.
