Daytime activities, overnight breaks and respite (Community Short Breaks Service)

This information sets out the community services commissioned by Northamptonshire Children’s Trust for families with a child with special educational needs or disability.

Northamptonshire Children’s Trust commission Action for Children. They offer a range of youth clubs Saturday clubs and holiday clubs for children aged 8 and above.

Children aged 5 to 8 can attend unaccompanied for 2 hours at the holiday clubs.

Action for Children can also offer an overnight break for young people at one of the 2 purpose-built homes, John Greenwood Shipman Home or The Squirrels. This is only by arrangement with your social worker. Bespoke packages may be available in certain circumstances by the arrangement of your social worker.

Children and young people eligible for short breaks will have a range of needs such as Moderate Learning Disabilities (MLD), Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD).

Families should contact Action for Children directly to arrange a youth club or holiday club activity. Overnight or respite care is arranged by your social worker.
