Contact Northamptonshire Children’s Trust

If you find yourself without a home, contact Northamptonshire Children's Trust who can offer you advice on the options available to you, and help you mediate with your family if this is what you want.

How we can support you

You are entitled to support if you are deemed to be in need. There is support available to children and their families under a law called the Children Act 1989.

Different kinds of support can be provided (including accommodation and/or financial support), depending on your circumstances. For example, if you are homeless or about to be homeless, or you do not have enough money to access essential things (like food, travel, clothes), you may be able to access this support.

You will be offered options and both a social worker and a housing officer will work with you to put together a plan to support you.

The Northamptonshire Children’s Trust website has useful resources and information about moving homes.

For more information, our 16/17-year-old joint protocol outlines how we will work with young people. It sets out the responsibilities of Children's Social Care, Housing and partner agencies. Its purpose is to safeguard the well-being of the young person and to prevent homelessness.

We can advise you of your legal rights and help you find alternative accommodation depending on your circumstance

Your landlord must follow the correct legal process before making you leave. The process depends on the type of tenancy you have. If you need to work out the type of tenancy you have, you can use Shelter’s Tenancy Checker.

If you have been given notice by your landlord, you can check if it’s legally valid.

If your landlord tries to make you leave without following this process, this may be considered harassment or illegal eviction.

If you're reaching the end of your Assured Shorthold Tenancy (AST) and are worried that you may have to leave before you find somewhere else to live, contact us as soon as possible. The sooner you contact us, the more we can do to help you.
